NPS Stop 2-Charles Pinckney National Historic Site: https://www.nps.gov/chpi/index.htm This site was one of the smaller plantations owned by Charles Pinckney who was a principal author and signer of the United States Constitution. On this plantation the cash crop was indigo. Indigo was used in textiles as a blue dye. This plantation produced over one million pounds of indigo which was shipped to England. This site is a very pretty setting and the azaleas and roses were in bloom. We hiked some of the trails in what was left of the massive estate which he used as a summer home.
