NPS Stop 11-Valley Forge National Historical Park: https://www.nps.gov/vafo/index.htm Valley Forge was not what we thought is was. It was the site chosen by General George Washington for the winter encampment of 1777-78. There was only one skirmish on this property but this location was a very important part of the eight year American Revolutionary War. Active fighting during the winter was not typical, however this winter was a very productive time. A small city was built in Valley Forge and housed over 12,400 people. The times were very tough here. Congress was unable to fully support the army and soldiers were lacking food, clothing and equipment and training. Baron von Steuben was hired and trained the troops to fight as a unified army which made a huge difference in the battles following the winter at Valley Forge. There were many casualties during this long, cold winter. Over 2000 people died in Valley Forge mostly due to disease and illness. We took a 3 hour streaming audio tour from NPS and it was very well done. Photos: https://www.nationalparkplanningguides.com/photos.html Current location: https://trackmytour.com/5pTZ3
